Election Day at St. Augustine Beach

Election day, November 8, 2016, for the St. Augustine Tea Party was focused at the polling station at City Hall in St. Augustine Beach, Florida. The Tea Party had been concerned with city commissioners interfering with an election, by removing political signs from public lands in the middle of an election. While the Tea Party does not formally endorse candidates, a group of Tea Party members, as individuals, supported the candidacies of Rosetta Bailey and Maggie Kostka.

Maggie Kostka Unseats the Samuels
Maggie Kostka, a grassroots candidate, defeated Andrea Samuels a long-term City Commissioner and former Mayor. City Commissioner, Undine George, pictured left, promoted Kostka’s campaign. Recently, Robert Samuels, husband of Andrea Samuels, attacked Commissioner Undine George at a dinner at Marsh Creek Country Club. The Samuels and Mayor O’Brien have a history in the community of using bullying tactics. Today, the O’Brien campaign created an  incident against his opponent, Rosetta Bailey, which required police resolution. Tea Party candidate, Rosetta Bailey, made an impressive showing, capturing about 40% of the vote. Mrs. Bailey is relatively new to St. Augustine Beach and had limited resources and time.

Town Criers to Stand Down
Town Crier Chairman Lance Thate reports:

“The Town Criers have completed their 179th mission with the conclusion of November 5th activity. Over 1.5 million people have encountered our flags and signs. An estimated 89,500 photographs have been taken by the public. The great majority of these photographs have been placed on Facebook and more recently on Twitter. Only God knows the total number of photos viewed. Based on the average daily views, our website has had 2.2 million visits. We have mailed our publication 335,500 times. People from every state in the union and 37 countries follow the activities of the Town Crier Committee.

The Town Crier mission has been to engage and listen to the voice of the American People. There is a different story being told when you listen to them. The corporate establishment media and the pundits that frequent it are destroying America. The print media and the major TV networks have evolved into propagandists. The best you can get is fair and balanced.  Fair and balanced doesn’t necessarily equate to reporting the truth of the matter.

The Town Criers are going to stand down effective November 9, 2016. This is true regardless of who wins the election. This is not the first time that the Town Crier committee has stood down. We did so in 2012. After the 2012 election, we were so demoralized that we had to take time to reevaluate. By mid January 2013, It was clear that our mission should continue.

While the “boots on the ground” activity will be suspended, our Town Crier Committee Report will continue to be published. Town Crier volunteers have been marching for over five years. They have never asked for anything, but they receive a great reward. They have the respect and the love of their fellow countrymen. It is our intention to stand down until Inauguration Day. Our troops need some R and R. Should the election go badly and or be contested, the Town Criers will serve in any way they can.

The last time we stood down, we were demoralized. This time, if things go badly, we will be  enraged.”
